Following the MCA Meeting at The Deaf Society on Monday 16th February 2009 the following email was received from the Public Guardian, Martin John who attended the event for the first time.

It was really good to see you again in Nottingham on Monday and I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet members of the forum. I hope you thought it was as productive as I did - thank you very much for the invitiation. Thank you too for the card and very kind gift. It really was not necessary, but I was very touched. My team are certainly enjoying sharing the chocolates with me!

I've asked that one or two of my comms/stakeholder team sign up to the web forum so that we can monitor and respond to issues as appropriate. I shall also seek a positive way of using and supporting the forum - particularly in connection withour Review work.

Mobile Homes

Does anyone have any experience of mobile homes and financial assessments? I need to know whether a mobile home is classed as a dwelling or a chattel and whether a mobile home is considered in a financial assessment when someone moves into a care home. Can Social Services take out a loan against a mobile home whilst it is being sold to fund a person's care home etc? The mobile home is the full time residence of the person and is not a holiday home.

Hello, I run an established day centre in Radford and I suppose I am one of the founders of this mental capacity act forum. As one of the early members , I would like to express my delight at how the forum is moving now. This new 'blog' will enable us to share our concerns, ideas and solutions together and as I am a non -professional in the sense that I do not work directly in the field of mental capacity I feel there will be a lot for me to learn about the linking of services to gain the best possible results for the client. We will learn a lot today from the public guardian CEO Martin John and I hope this will encourage us to use this 'link up' to follow through with ideas and that Martin will dip in now and again to see how we are faring. Because of the recent changes within adult services and so many moving offices it has been difficult to make sure everyone gets to hear about us so please pass on this link to people. I suggest that we have our previous minutes put on the message board and relevant up to date information. I look forward to getting to know you all and working together. Welcome to the MCA Forum

The Forum began as a conversation between Jill Davies (the CEO at Radford Care Group) and I about a year ago now. We have now held two meetings and the next is fast approaching . I am a Private Client solicitor but also a Director at Radford Care Group. I have a keen interest in the Act and work regularly with elderly clients. By working together we can provide a better service and educate each other.

The Forum is only as good as we make it! Let's make it work.

The Forum enables professionals the opportunity to share information and discuss ways in which the Mental Capacity Act 2005 has affected their work and their clients.
